River discharge along the southern rim of the Russian Arctic has shown
various long-term and short-term trends. Long-term changes of the
discharges of Rivers Severnaya Dvina and Sukhona have been studied for
the period since 1882. Obviously, there are various different flow
regimes, such as above-average flows during some decades in contrast to
below-average flows in other decades of the studied record. However, is
no significant long-term linear trend. In a second step, the observed
variability and trends have been linked to both well-known
teleconnection patterns as well as regional climate (mostly temperature,
precipitation regimes). Such weather patterns could explain varying
parts of the observed variability, depending on season. |
